It is absolutely unacceptable, but I have thumbsuckers! Gage was my little trendsetter. He started this nasty habit about a week ago at Granna's house. The first couple of days he just did it a couple of times, by the third day that thumb was practically a permanent fixture in his mouth! He is absolutely refusing his paci, so I think he is a lost cause in regards to the thumbsucking :(
Gage: The first thumbsucker (I have to admit it's kind of cute now, but it won't be when he's 5 and still doing it!)
His bad influence has rubbed off on his brother, Westin. There is still hope for Westin I think. He has only been doing it for a day or two and I have only caught him when he is asleep on his tummy. He will still accept his paci when he is awake and he will use it to go to sleep, so I think he only resorts to the thumb when he is asleep and has lost his paci. I'm going to push the paci HARD. Wish me luck!
I've caught Brooklyn with the thumb in her mouth one time, but maybe it was just a fluke. She chews on her fist a lot (Jackson used to do that too), so maybe the thumb sucking was accidental. I'm going to tell myself that this is the case until proven otherwise. She still takes a pacifier so I'm crossing my fingers!
Kynlee is my only obedient child who has listened when Mommy says no thumbsucking or at least I haven't caught her the act so far!
I hate thumbsucking because you can't take their thumb away when you are ready to make them stop! This sucks!! (insert whining and foot stomping here as I throw a tantrum because my babies won't do things my way :) If anyone has a magical solution to make it stop, I'm open to suggestion, but I'm guessing it's a battle I will have to fight at a later date . . .
Just a cute play time picture from today: Westin, Gage, Brooklyn, and Kynlee

Sorry, no advice since I have been lucky enough not to have any thumbsuckers (yet!). I do recall, however, that Mrs. Merriweather told Rhett Butler that putting quinine (whatever that is) on Bonnie Blue Butler's thumb would do the trick. :)
ReplyDeletequinine is an anti malaria drug!!! Not highly recommended except possibly in classic movies. What do they know about birthin' babies??? And Jackie don't blame thumbsucking on Granna's house, perhaps thumb up the backside but not thumbsucking!!!
