Multitasking

Every mother I know is a multitasking queen. Let's face it, it's a requirement of the job. As a mother you can cook dinner while playing with your 3 year old and talking on the phone. Now, dinner might get burned, a toy might become part of dinner and the person you are talking to might not understand why you keep repeating the phrase "I will defeat you, Decepticon" (Transformers!), but hey . . . In all seriousness, mother's really can multitask pretty well within reason, that being said, with quadruplets and a 3 year old, I now multitask in ways I would never have imagined before. I can bounce one baby in my lap while trying to feed cereal to two babies in bouncy seats; I can play "I Spy" while feeding two babies (really any mother who has a baby and an older child might do this one); when feeding two babies, I can maneuver one onto my shoulder to burp without ever breaking stride feeding the other one; and my most recent accomplishment:

I can feed three babies at one time, which totally impresses Jackson.

I figured out how to do this out of desperation. Clint really doesn't like to feed more than one at a time (though he is getting better at it just in the last couple of days) and in the evenings when they are all mad I can't take the high pitch screaming that comes from the one who has to wait to eat (they are not patient in the evening), so I decided a couple of weeks ago to give it a go. Turns out it can totally be done. I don't make a habit of feeding babies this way during the day, but this is generally what happens in the evening. I have been known to do it during the day too if there are 3 that are starving and I can't take the screaming, but I try not to unless I'm desperate. Never a skill I thought I would even attempt to possess, but God throws curve balls sometimes and with a lot of practice you can turn the curve ball into a homerun (or at least a 3rd base hit:)

  1. WOW, Jackie! I am pretty sure I never even tried to feed more than two at a time. Of course, we had bad reflux starting at around 2 months old, so we had to have them positioned just so. Glad you don't have to worry about that!
