No matter your age, there is nothing better than the circus. Only at the circus can you recapture the pure awe and amazement of childhood. At the circus you can experience true wonder over the magic, terror and excitement over the stunts and joy over the fabulous animal tricks. The only thing better than going to the circus is taking a child (or five) to the circus, and that's just what we did.
Barnum and Bailey came to town last Friday and the Hacker's got in line! We trekked out with all five kiddos for an evening of circus fun and everyone had a great time. Aunt Kiki went with us and when her friend Holly found out we were going, she decided to go with us too. Jackson absolutely had the best time. He loved every second and is still talking about it a week later. He would just stare with his mouth open as the performers did their stunts and magic tricks. He laughed at the silly clowns and he danced to the music! With every "death-defying" stunt, he would turn to me and say, "That was dangerous, momma!" He already can't wait to go back again.
The babies also had a good time. They were all mesmerized by the lights, sounds and action. They were so enthralled in fact, that every single one of them stayed awake for the entire thing and were still awake and HAPPY at 10 p.m. when we got back out to our car! Too bad we can't have circus every night to keep babies distracted and happy during the "witching hour."
I do have to say though, that the best thing about the circus as a parent is that my kids crashed HARD afterward! Jackson almost always wakes up when you carry him in from the car and the kid didn't move a muscle! Okay . . . really my favorite part is the acrobatics. I love watching the flips and amazing feats of the acrobats and there were some really cool acts at this show. There was a lot of magic at the show too which was really fun. I especially love the "quick change" magic trick. How do they do that!? (If you are unfamiliar, this is the one where the girl changes her clothes over and over and over again in a split second of time!) I know that the elephants are always really popular too and I like them, but I don't think I get as excited about them as a lot of people do.
Of course with quadruplets at the circus, we attracted some attention of our own too. We ran into several people that we know, including a NICU nurse that hadn't seen them since they were discharged (turns out her son is the boy at school that Jackson talks about all the time, small world!). People were very polite overall, but we did have one comment of the night that I just had to laugh at. A woman commented on how brave she thought we were venture out to a big event with all of them, then said, "But I guess it is the circus." I know that she didn't mean it the way it kind of sounded, but . . .
Regardless, it was so much fun!!! I can't wait until our next big circus adventure. Just imagine the joy I will get to witness when all five of my kiddos are old enough to get swept away by the magic of the CIRCUS.
