Okay, so let me start by giving credit where credit is due. The word "pooptastrophe" is not mine. It was coined by another mother (who also happens to have quadruplets), Jamie Barnes, but there is no other way to describe what happened in our house today . . .
The girls have started taking their diapers off. This was not something Jackson ever did, so I wasn't really prepared for this phase of toddlerhood. My brother (who is their "manny" right now), told me about this on Wednesday. The girls had been taking their diapers off all day and then during naptime, there was a little poop incident. Having not experienced it myself, I did not heed the warning that was apparently being given. I'm not sure the extent of the incident that Jacob had to deal with, but based on his description, it was not quite as bad as the one today, though still noteworthy. Today, we got to experience it first hand.
I went to run errands with Jackson, as soon as the garage door came up when we got home, Clint poked his head out and said in a somewhat panicked voice, that he needed my help. If I had known what I was about to walk into, I would have gotten back in the car and run another "errand" FAST! I walked into the girls' room to find a trashbag filled with all the girls' sleep time stuffed animals and their pillow pets . . . then I looked up. There was Brooklyn. Sitting in the crib. COVERED in poop! It was on her legs, it was on her stomach, it was smeared on the rails of the crib, it was smeared on the backboard of the crib, it was covering the crib sheet from one side to the other, it was on her hands, under her fingernails, in her hair and ON HER FACE!! Both pillow pets had been hit, both of Kynlee's animals had been hit and Brooklyn's blankie pal was still clutched in her hand, also COVERED. I stood there for a moment thinking, "what the HE** am I'm going to do about this." Then I said out loud, "Where do we even start?!" Clint said he had no idea. I looked at Brooklyn's poor little face, she looked shocked and stunned and I turned to Clint and said, "She looks distressed." To which he replied that HE was distressed. It took me about 10 more seconds before I was in action. I went to the kitchen, wet a bunch of paper towels, came back and started trying to wipe Brooklyn. It took all of about 5 seconds to realize this was futile and do you know that as I was starting this process, I was actually laughing. Yes, laughing! And not that nervous, near hysterical laughing that you are imagining right now, it was genuine, this is hysterical, kind of belly laughing. Am I nuts or what?!
I will admit that when I first walked into the room, I almost burst into tears. We've had a ROUGH few days with Jackson and he had just tested my patience yet again while at the store, but after I digested the situation a little, I couldn't help but think it was funny! Once the futility of my actions was apparent, I picked Brooklyn up (without getting her near my clothes at all) and marched her straight out the back door. Yes, it was a second hose down and unfortunately for her, she was the one who hated the first hose down, so she cried the whole time while I scrubbed poop off of her. Once that was done, I sent her back in to daddy for a bath with Kynlee, wiped down and disinfected the crib, then rounded up all of the bedding and animals that were also covered and marched them outside. I hung the sheet on the fence and hosed it down and again, I found myself laughing (who would have thought). When that was finished, I hosed down everything else too. You might be wondering why I didn't just throw it all away . . . well, these were the items that my girls CAN'T sleep without, so I had to salvage them for sanity sake. Fortunately, a good hosing did the trick and then straight to a washing machine filled with HOT water!!
All's well that ends well, and hey, I got a good laugh out of it surprisingly enough!!
